Yoon Holds Brief Talks with Italian Prime Minister... Condolences and Sympathy for Flood Damage
Meeting After Group Photo at the G7 Summit
On the 20th, President Yoon Suk-yeol had a brief conversation with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Italy's first female prime minister in history, after the group photo session at the Group of Seven (G7) summit.
Lee Do-woon, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated in a written briefing, "President Yoon expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to Prime Minister Meloni regarding the heavy rain damage in Italy."
On the 16th, record-breaking heavy rains hit northern Italy, forcing more than 13,000 people to evacuate and causing at least 14 deaths.
Prime Minister Meloni expressed her gratitude to President Yoon and explained that due to the disaster caused by the floods in Italy, she had to return home earlier than originally planned. She also conveyed her hope to hold a formal meeting with the president at the earliest opportunity.

President Yoon once again offered his condolences to Prime Minister Meloni, saying, "I hope for a swift recovery from the flood damage and for peace and stability to be restored."
