Peeking at Password When Unlocking Door Lock
A man in his 30s was arrested for secretly memorizing the door lock password and entering and leaving a woman’s home as if it were his own while she was out.
According to a Yonhap News report on the 20th, the Uijeongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they had arrested a man in his 30s, Mr. A, on suspicion of attempted nighttime residential burglary and theft, and sent him to the prosecution.
The police received a report from a woman, Ms. B, on the 21st of last month, stating, "A stranger entered while I was away from home." Ms. B had been feeling something was off every time she returned from going out, so she purchased and installed a home camera. On that day, a man was captured on the camera. The footage clearly showed a stranger suddenly entering the house and wandering around inside.
The man’s intrusion that day did not end with just one entry. He entered and exited Ms. B’s home about seven times over approximately 30 minutes, as if it were his own house. However, he did not steal or damage any items; instead, he touched furniture and looked around the rooms inside the house.
The police tracked the suspect through closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other means and apprehended Mr. A, a man in his 30s, earlier this month. Mr. A was identified as a neighbor living in the same apartment complex as Ms. B. During the police investigation, Mr. A stated, "I was going up and down the apartment stairs for exercise when I secretly observed Ms. B entering the door lock password." He also said about his motive, "I was curious about the home of a woman living alone."
The police investigated the possibility that Mr. A had entered other homes as well, but no evidence or clues were found. It was also reported that Mr. A claimed he did not enter any homes other than Ms. B’s.
