On the 21st, people who immerse themselves in a state of no thoughts will gather at the Jamsugyo Bridge on the Han River in Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Han River Project Headquarters announced on the 19th that they have selected 70 teams to participate in the '2023 Han River Spacing Out Contest.'
The rule of the 'Spacing Out Contest' is to maintain a blank state without any actions or thoughts. It is advantageous to maintain a stable heart rate or to have a decreasing heart rate.
A total of 3,160 teams applied during the four-day application period starting from the 8th, resulting in a competition rate of 45 to 1. The headquarters stated that the final 70 teams were selected by focusing on their application stories while ensuring a variety of occupations and age groups were included.
Participants include self-propelled artillery engineers, animal keepers, emergency medical technicians, soccer players, and unique participants such as the popular character 'Belligom,' who won the Presidential Award at the 'Korea Content Awards.'
They commonly sent stories expressing their hope to blow away the burdens and stresses received in daily life.
Among the participants, 63% (44 people) were male and 37% (26 people) were female. The age group with the highest representation was people in their 20s at 37% (26 people), followed by 30s at 36% (25 people), 40s at 13% (9 people), 50s and under 20s each at 6% (4 people), and those 60 and older at 3% (2 people). A total of 3 foreigners are also participating.
Last year, a fan of the Hanwha Eagles in their 30s won the spacing out contest, drawing attention with a witty application story.
On the day of the contest, from 3 PM to 7 PM on the 21st, a program called 'Daily Spacing Out' will be available for anyone to participate for free on-site, allowing people to experience discovering moments of spacing out in daily life.
Juyongtae, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Han River Project Headquarters, said, "The Han River Spacing Out Contest, where you can empathize with and support the stories of participants representing various occupations, is an event that is also very enjoyable to watch," adding, "I hope everyone enjoys a fun weekend with this unique contest at the Han River this Sunday."
