Gijang Korea Baseball Museum Passes Final 'Pre-Establishment Feasibility Evaluation' by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
The Busan Gijang-gun Korean Baseball Museum (Korean Baseball Hall of Fame) construction project passed the preliminary feasibility evaluation for the establishment of a public museum by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the 9th.
Gijang-gun has steadily carried out various preliminary procedures step by step, such as hiring a dedicated curator and changing agreements since 2022, to build the museum.
The county submitted the preliminary evaluation application to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in January, passed the first document review in March, the second on-site evaluation, and the final evaluation at the end of April, enabling the establishment of a public museum.
Gijang-gun aims to open the Baseball Museum in 2026, plans to complete the detailed design this year, and intends to start construction as early as the first half of next year.
The Korean Baseball Museum is planned to be built on a 1,852㎡ site within Ilgwang Amusement Park (Gijang Baseball Theme Park) in Ilgwang-eup, Gijang-gun, with a total floor area of 2,996.2㎡ consisting of one basement floor and three above-ground floors.
The museum will be developed as a complex cultural space featuring the Korean Baseball Hall of Fame dedicated to baseball heroes, housing and exhibiting approximately 50,000 related materials covering 110 years of Korean baseball history, along with various experiential programs and educational spaces.
Jung Jong-bok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, said, “I am very pleased that the Korean Baseball Museum can be established as the nation’s first official baseball museum and Gijang-gun’s first public museum.”
