Lee Kyung-hoon "First Korean Player to Challenge PGA 3 Consecutive Wins"
Declaration to Win AT&T Byron Nelson for 3rd Consecutive Year
Rising Momentum with Tied 8th at Last Week's Wells Fargo Championship
Baesangmun, Kang Seonghun Join All-Time Champs and Kim Siwoo
Lee Kyoung-hoon is challenging a new history.
Starting from the 11th (local time) for four days, Lee Kyoung-hoon aims for a third consecutive victory at the PGA Tour AT&T Byron Nelson (total prize money $9.5 million) held at TPC Craig Ranch (par 71, 7,414 yards) in McKinney, Texas, USA. Lee Kyoung-hoon won his first career victory at this tournament in 2021 on his 80th appearance, and successfully defended his title last year to secure his second career win.
Lee Kyung-hoon challenges to become the first Korean player to win three consecutive titles at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
View original imageLee Kyoung-hoon is the only Korean player to win the same PGA Tour event two years in a row. ‘Tank’ Choi Kyung-ju won the Chrysler Classic in October 2005 and the Chrysler Championship in October 2006, but those were two different tournaments. Achieving a three-peat at a tournament is a very difficult record. Since World War II, only nine players have accomplished it, and seven of them were inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, demonstrating their exceptional skills. The most recent record was set by Steve Stricker (USA), who won the John Deere Classic from 2009 to 2011. At this tournament, established in 1944, Tom Watson (USA) was the first and only player to win three consecutive titles from 1978 to 1980.
Lee Kyoung-hoon draws attention as he has shown good form recently. He finished tied for 8th at last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, marking his third top-10 finish of the season. This season, Lee has played in 16 tournaments, made the cut 13 times, and finished in the top 25 five times. His personal best is 3rd place at The CJ Cup last October. The PGA Tour also ranked Lee Kyoung-hoon 2nd in their tournament power rankings. Locally, he has even been nicknamed ‘TPC LEE’ because of his strong compatibility with the challenging TPC Craig Ranch course.

With world No. 1 Jon Rahm (Spain) and No. 3 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) absent, No. 2 Scottie Scheffler (USA) is the strong favorite to win. Scheffler is a powerful player who has won the WM Phoenix Open and The Players Championship, known as the ‘fifth major,’ this season. He has accumulated six PGA Tour wins in total. Korean champions include Bae Sang-moon in 2013 and Kang Sung-hoon in 2019. Joining them are Kim Si-woo, Kim Joo-hyung, Kim Sung-hyun, Noh Seung-yul, and An Byeong-hun.
