Hamburg Port Anniversary Festival '2023 Korea-Busan Festival'
Busan's Representative Food History and Excellence Draw High Interest and Response from Locals
Busan City showcased the charm of 'Busan, the Global Gourmet City' to one million visitors at the '2023 Korea-Busan Festival (hereafter Festival),' held from the 5th to the 7th of this month local time, in conjunction with the 834th Hamburg Port Anniversary Festival.
First, the city operated the 'Gourmet City Busan Promotion Hall' at the festival venue. Eight representative Busan dishes, including pork soup with rice and milmyeon, were exhibited, and vivid videos detailing the origin stories and cooking processes of these dishes were produced and screened in three languages.
Additionally, the 'Busan Food in My Hand' guide was provided via QR codes for mobile viewing.
On the first day of the festival, the 5th local time, a '2030 Busan World Expo Bid Cake' was made using 'tteok,' a traditional Korean rice cake essential at celebrations, and distributed to local visitors, sharing the Korean spirit of sharing with neighbors on auspicious days and wishing for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan World Expo.
Notably, at the VIP reception held on the evening of the 5th local time, Busan chefs Kim Bong-gon and Choi Wook-jin from Busan Lotte Hotel introduced the 'taste' of 'Busan, the Global Gourmet City' to over 70 dignitaries and local journalists through a dinner and B-Food tasting.
The dinner featured various dishes reinterpreting Busan cuisine, such as Busan currywurst and Busan fish cake salad, made with products recognized as excellent Busan foods, alongside local Hamburg menu items. These dishes received praise as flavors surpassing even Europe's top restaurants, revealing the potential and strength of B-Food in the global market.
During the three-day event period (5.5.?5.7.), in collaboration with the Hamburg Korean Association, activities such as Squid Game photo time and social media events promoting the Busan Expo were held, and visitors were offered the chance to taste the '2030 Busan World Expo Dalgona,' providing various enjoyable experiences.
Furthermore, on the 6th local time, a 'B-Food Cooking Class' was held where Busan chefs and chefs from the German Consulate demonstrated newly developed dishes themed on excellent Busan foods to about 30 participants, including locals and second- to third-generation Korean-Germans, and shared the tasting experience with them.
