Caught After Passing Speed Camera... Rear License Plate Captured and Violator Detected
Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency Introduces 'Rear Unmanned Enforcement'
742 Cases Detected in One Month with Two Devices
More than 700 cases have been caught within a month since the introduction of the 'rear unmanned traffic enforcement equipment,' which captures the rear license plates of vehicles that suddenly accelerate after passing speed enforcement cameras to crack down on traffic violations.
On the 5th, the Traffic Division of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced that a total of 742 cases of speeding and signal violations were detected in one month using the rear unmanned traffic enforcement equipment, which began operation on the 1st of last month. When converted to a daily average, about 12 violating vehicles were caught per day per device. Previously, the police installed one device each on roads in Yeonmu-dong, Jangan-gu, Suwon City, and Sangsin-ri, Hyangnam-eup, Hwaseong City, totaling two devices in the southern Gyeonggi area.

During the full-scale enforcement in April, 601 four-wheeled vehicles (329 speeding cases, 272 signal violations) and 141 two-wheeled vehicles (118 speeding cases, 23 signal violations) were caught.
The most frequent violation was speeding by four-wheeled vehicles, accounting for 44.3% of all violations. It was reported that many drivers slowed down in front of the device but then accelerated rapidly after passing, leading to detection. The rear unmanned traffic enforcement equipment can monitor traffic violations not only from the rear but also from the front.
A police official stated, "With the introduction of the rear unmanned traffic enforcement equipment, we expect to prevent cases that undermine traffic safety, such as vehicles that only slow down in front of enforcement devices and then speed up, and especially to significantly increase traffic law compliance among motorcycle riders without front license plates."
