Gwangju Dong-gu Council Holds Children's Mock Assembly
The Dong-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 4th that it held a mock council meeting on the 3rd by inviting students from Yongsan Elementary School in the district.
Twenty-three students from Yongsan Elementary School toured the council chamber along with an explanation of the council, then divided roles to propose and debate a "Practical Plan for Preventing School Violence," and proceeded to a vote, experiencing the democratic decision-making process.
Park Si-yeon, a 6th-grade student who played the role of the council office manager, said, "We have meetings at school, but it was great to hold a meeting following formal procedures in such a formal council chamber."
Teacher Ahn Kyung-min, who led the group, said, "I thought the council was too distant for students without voting rights, but I am grateful to the council members and officials who helped provide this valuable experience."
