Human Rights Commission: "Seocho Police Station Refuses to Accept Recommendations on Countermeasures for Occupation Protests"
The Seoul Seocho Police Station has decided not to accept the recommendation of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) to establish appropriate measures to prevent senior assembly participants from obstructing the activities of junior assembly participants through sit-in tactics.
On the 4th, the NHRCK stated in a press release that the Seocho Police Station responded by saying, "When there is a conflict over assembly locations, we do our best to ensure that both senior and junior assemblies are fully guaranteed through administrative guidance at the stage of assembly notification and reception, as well as on-site dialogue during the assembly," and that they would not accept the NHRCK's recommendation.
In January, the NHRCK judged that Hyundai Motor Company was obstructing the freedom of assembly of a solo protester who has been claiming unfair dismissal for 10 years in front of Hyundai Motor's headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, through a sit-in protest. Accordingly, the NHRCK recommended the Seocho Police Chief to devise countermeasures, conduct job training for police officers in charge of assembly and demonstration duties, and establish measures to guarantee both senior and junior assemblies.
