'Lucerne Symphony Returns to Korea After 4 Years, Featuring Pianist Yunchan Lim'
June 28 at Seoul Lotte Concert Hall
July 2 on stage at Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall
Pianist Lim Yoon-chan will perform on stage with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra during their visit to Korea in July. This will be Lim Yoon-chan's first overseas orchestra collaboration performance held in Korea.
Concert planning company Vincero announced on the 3rd that the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Michael Sanderling, will perform at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul on June 28 and at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on July 2.
In this concert, the Lucerne Symphony will present Mendelssohn's overture to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and Symphony No. 4 "Italian." Pianist Lim Yoon-chan, who became the youngest winner in the history of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition last year, will perform Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 with the orchestra.
Founded in 1806, the Lucerne Symphony is one of the orchestras officially responsible for the regular program of the Lucerne Festival, a leading summer classical music festival in Europe. Sanderling has been leading the orchestra as principal conductor since the 2021-2022 season.
Sanderling is familiar to Korean audiences through his steady visits with the Dresden Philharmonic, a German orchestra where he served as principal conductor from 2011 to 2019, showcasing the profound German traditional sound. He is also known as the son of the renowned conductor Kurt Sanderling.
Lim Yoon-chan gained worldwide attention by becoming the youngest winner at the age of 18 at the Van Cliburn Competition in the United States last June. While continuing his phenomenal popularity in the domestic classical music scene, he also attracted significant interest overseas. Lim Yoon-chan's Van Cliburn Competition performance was recognized by being included in The New York Times' list of the top 10 classical performances of 2022.
Violinist Augustin Hadelich will also visit Korea for collaborative performances. Hadelich will perform at the Seoul Arts Center on June 27, Andong Culture & Arts Center on June 30, and Tongyeong International Music Hall on July 1. Audiences can enjoy Franz Schreker's Intermezzo, Beethoven's Violin Concerto, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. In Tongyeong, instead of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 "Italian" will be performed.
