On the 28th, the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) held a "Luncheon Meeting with Virginia Governor" at the InterContinental COEX Hotel in Samseong-dong, Seoul, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance.
The meeting was attended by 30 people, including Glenn Youngkin, Governor of Virginia, Karen Merrick, Secretary of Commerce of Virginia, the Virginia economic delegation, and Korean businesspeople operating in Virginia.
In his opening remarks, Jeong Manki, Vice Chairman of KITA, said, "Over the past decade, the United States accounted for 29% of total overseas investment from Korea, ranking first," adding, "Korean corporate investment has greatly contributed to job creation in the US."
He continued, "In key industries such as electric vehicles and secondary batteries, Korean companies can become reliable and essential supply chain partners for the US," and added, "The two countries should expand cooperation not only in trade and investment but also in future industries such as the green sector."
Governor Youngkin said in his greeting, "I am pleased to visit Asia, including Korea, as my first trip after taking office," and added, "I want to discuss various aspects of economic cooperation with the accompanying economic delegation and Korean companies."
He also stated, "Korea is a very important partner in promoting Virginia's economic growth and prosperity," and "We will strengthen the partnership with Korea to reaffirm the value of the Korea-US alliance and expand cooperation."
KITA established and operates the Korea-US Economic Council (KUSEC), the first permanent organization dedicated to Korea-US economic cooperation. It has been engaging in exchanges and communication with state governments and major US institutions to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two economies.
