The 39th Cheonghae Unit currently on operation includes the Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyer (DDH-II, 4,400 tons).
For operational security reasons, the military has not disclosed the specific destination of the Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin, but it is expected to head near Port Sudan, which is considered one of the evacuation routes for Korean residents in Sudan.
Port Sudan is a port city on the Red Sea coast, and on the same day, Saudi Arabia evacuated 157 people, including its nationals and foreigners, from Port Sudan by ship to Jeddah Port in Saudi Arabia.
The movement of the Cheonghae Unit is intended to transport Korean residents to the port and bring them by sea if using the airport is difficult due to the unpredictable local situation.
