People Power Party Reacts, "Thrown Away Cooperation"
On the 23rd, the National Assembly decided in a plenary session to re-vote on the amendment to the Grain Management Act, which President Yoon Seok-yeol had requested reconsideration of.
The Democratic Party of Korea requested a change in the agenda during the plenary session to submit the amendment to the Grain Management Act. The amendment was passed in the plenary session on the 23rd of last month, but President Yoon Seok-yeol exercised his veto on the 4th of last month, requesting reconsideration, and thus the bill was brought back to the plenary session agenda.

View original imageLee Su-jin, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, told reporters after a party meeting, "There has been long discussion regarding the Grain Management Act, and since the president ignored the farmers' burning concerns and exercised his veto, causing great public outrage, it must be processed according to the procedures set by the National Assembly Act and the Constitution." She added, "The party has decided to make every effort to pass it today as a party stance."
As a result of the vote on whether to put the agenda forward, out of 285 members present, 176 voted in favor and 109 against, passing the motion to re-vote on the amendment to the Grain Management Act in the plenary session that day.
Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, said to reporters before the meeting, "I believe that the National Assembly should not operate in a way that changes the agenda without sufficient time to discuss issues directly related to the lives of the people, only considering political advantages or disadvantages, and neglecting the basic cooperation of parliamentary politics."

Earlier, the floor leaders of the ruling and opposition parties met several times in the morning and afternoon under the chairmanship of Speaker Kim Jin-pyo to discuss whether to submit the amendment to the Grain Management Act, but they failed to reach an agreement.
