Masters 'Cut Miss' McIlroy to Skip PGA Tour Premier Event
Will Not Participate in RBC Heritage Starting on the 14th
Second Time Following the January Sentry Tournament
Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), who missed the cut at this year's first major tournament, the Masters, has decided not to participate in the PGA Tour's "premier event" RBC Heritage.
PGA Tour.com announced on the 11th that McIlroy, who was originally scheduled to compete in the RBC Heritage held in Harbour Town, South Carolina, starting on the 14th, will not participate. The reason for his absence from the tournament was not mentioned.
The RBC Heritage is one of the PGA Tour's premier events introduced this year. Earlier, the PGA Tour designated a total of 17 tournaments as premier events for the 2022-2023 season, including the four major championships, the Players Championship, three FedEx Cup playoff events, and nine regular tournaments, increasing the prize money. This decision to raise the prize money was made to prevent top-ranked players from leaving after the launch of LIV Golf, backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), last year.
The Sentry Tournament of Champions held in January had a total prize fund of $15 million, and all other tournaments increased their total prize money to over $20 million. The RBC Heritage will also be held with a total prize fund of $20 million.
Top-ranked players are virtually required to participate in these premier events. Players ranked in the top 20 of the PGA Tour Player Impact Program last season can only miss one of the 17 premier tournaments. If a player misses two or more premier events without a valid reason such as injury, they will not receive bonuses based on the Player Impact Program.

McIlroy will miss two premier events, including the RBC Heritage. He also did not participate in the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Along with McIlroy, Jason Day (Australia), Alex Noren (Sweden), and Will Zalatoris (USA) have also withdrawn from the RBC Heritage. Among them, Zalatoris recently underwent back surgery and has ended his season entirely.
