Hadong-gun Official Habitually Abusing and Sexually Harassing His Daughters Receives Suspended Sentence
A public official who habitually abused and molested his three daughters was sentenced to a prison term with a suspended sentence.
The Criminal Division 1 of Jinju Branch Court of Changwon District Court (Chief Judge Park Seong-man) on the 7th sentenced Mr. A, a man in his 40s and a public official from Hadong-gun, to three years in prison with a five-year suspension on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures and was banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled for three years.
Since his divorce from his wife in 2016 until 2021, Mr. A physically and mentally abused his three teenage daughters 17 times, including throwing objects and verbal abuse. In July 2020, he was also charged with forcibly molesting one of the children who shared a room with him.
The court stated, “The crime is serious as he committed physical and emotional abuse against his daughters, who are minors, over a considerable period,” and added, “Considering that he admitted his wrongdoing and showed remorse, and that the degree of the forced molestation was not severe, the sentence is determined comprehensively.”
