TSMC Chairman: "Taiwan Must Produce More Advanced Semiconductor Equipment"
The chairman of TSMC, the world's largest foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) company, emphasized that Taiwan needs to produce more advanced semiconductor equipment.
According to Bloomberg on the 30th (local time), Mark Liu, chairman of TSMC, attended a conference hosted by the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association and said, "Taiwan must produce more equipment essential for advanced semiconductor production," adding, "We need to build a more complete domestic semiconductor supply ecosystem."
Chairman Liu added that U.S. sanctions are limiting the flow of essential technology to China, and Taiwan can play a more important role globally in supplying semiconductor production equipment.
At the same time, Liu urged the Taiwanese government to provide more tax incentives for foreign semiconductor equipment companies to establish facilities within Taiwan.

He also stated that to maintain Taiwan's semiconductor competitiveness, investment in basic science and advanced research must be increased, and domestic capabilities in critical technologies should be developed to produce the equipment and materials necessary to sustain competitiveness.
