Incheon City is aiming to achieve an employment rate of 67.8% this year and create 146,000 new jobs.
The city announced on the 30th that it has prepared job policies to be implemented this year to fulfill its pledge of creating 600,000 jobs during the 8th term of the elected government.
Accordingly, the city will focus its efforts on achieving an employment rate (ages 15-64) of 67.8% and creating 146,000 jobs by investing a total job project budget of 4.748 trillion KRW, which is 5.4% higher than last year.
To foster new growth industries, the city plans to create a total of 6,921 high value-added jobs through 36 projects including future industry innovation jobs in AI, digital, robotics, and bio sectors, building an innovative growth startup ecosystem, and developing new growth industries in the Free Economic Zone.
To strengthen job safety nets for vulnerable groups and citizens, 54,139 jobs will be created through 25 public sector job projects, and 28,494 jobs will be generated through life-cycle tailored job support projects.
Additionally, 34,768 jobs will be created through 53 projects to revitalize Incheon’s specialized jobs, 1,093 jobs through 6 projects aimed at stabilizing small business management and creating a self-reliant environment, and 9,943 jobs through 23 projects supporting youth independence.
Furthermore, to resolve the increasingly severe job mismatch, a total of 10,163 jobs will be supported through 11 projects improving employment service infrastructure with 9,897 jobs and 6 projects activating job governance with 266 jobs.
Earlier, the city set a goal in December last year to create a total of 600,000 jobs and achieve an employment rate of 70.1% over four years from this year to 2026.
