On the 23rd (local time), Kim Si-woo defeated World No. 8 Viktor Hovland (Norway, 2 losses) by 4 holes in the second group stage match of the World Golf Championships (WGC) Dell Technologies Match Play (total prize money $20 million) held at Austin Country Club (par 71, 7,108 yards) in Austin, Texas, USA. This marks his second consecutive win after beating Chris Kirk (USA) by 4 holes the previous day. The tournament features 64 players divided into 16 groups, competing in a group stage similar to the FIFA World Cup, with the top player from each group advancing to the round of 16 for one-on-one match play.

View original imageKim Si-woo took the early lead by winning the 1st and 3rd holes thanks to mistakes by Hovland. He secured a 4-hole lead by making birdies on the 5th and 9th holes (both par 4). Although he lost the 13th hole, he immediately regained ground by winning the 14th hole and then halved the 15th hole (also par 4), effectively sealing the match early. Kim Si-woo will compete for a spot in the round of 16 against World No. 59 Matt Kuchar (USA, 1 win 1 draw) on the 25th. Kim earned his first win of the season and his fourth career victory at the Sony Open in January.
While Kim Si-woo delivered a victory, the other Korean players tasted defeat. World No. 16 Im Sung-jae (1 win 1 loss) lost by 1 hole to J.T. Poston (USA, 2 wins).
