[Metro] Traffic Flow Improves at Giheung TG Front Roundabout... Temporary Opening on the 23rd
Traffic flow is expected to improve at the roundabout intersection in front of Giheung Tollgate (TG) on the Gyeongbu Expressway, a section known for frequent congestion.
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 22nd that, as part of the Gyeongbu Expressway Giheung Interchange improvement project, an exit ramp from the southbound Gyeongbu Expressway Giheung Interchange toward Dongtan 2 New Town in Hwaseong City will be opened temporarily from 3 p.m. on the 23rd.
Vehicles exiting the expressway can use this road to bypass the roundabout in front of Giheung TG and directly head toward Dongtan 2 New Town.
The roundabout in front of Giheung TG has long suffered from chronic congestion due to the mix of vehicles visiting large commercial facilities nearby, such as Lotte Premium Outlet and IKEA, and vehicles entering and exiting the Gyeongbu Expressway from Dongtan 2 New Town.
A city official stated, "Citizens have experienced significant inconvenience due to severe congestion at the roundabout in front of Giheung TG. The opening of this exit ramp will help disperse traffic volume and greatly improve smooth traffic flow. We will do our best to create a convenient road environment by responding to traffic demand following the completion of the Giheung Interchange improvement project."

Korea Expressway Corporation is currently carrying out the Gyeongbu Expressway Giheung Interchange improvement project to enhance the traffic system in the area, aiming for completion in September this year. Upon completion, the existing Giheung TG will be closed, and the entrance and exit ramps for both directions to Seoul and Busan will be operated separately. The entrance and exit ramps will then branch toward Giheung and Dongtan 2 New Town directions.
