'Reinstated After 5 Weeks, the "Uijeong Consultation"... Discussion on Urgent Medical Issues and Other Current Matters'
The 'Medical-Government Consultation,' which had been suspended due to opposition from the medical community over the enactment of the Nursing Act, resumed after about a month. In this consultation, institutional improvement measures to strengthen essential and regional medical care were discussed.
On the afternoon of the 16th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Medical Association held the 3rd meeting of the 'Medical Issues Consultative Body' at BizHub Seoul Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. This meeting came five weeks after the 2nd meeting on the 9th of last month.
At this meeting, the government and the medical community agreed on the need for multifaceted discussions on ▲strengthening compensation and institutional improvement measures for undesirable specialties and vulnerable areas ▲improvement measures for the medical delivery system including bed management ▲placement and training of essential medical personnel, normalization of medical school education, and improvement of working conditions. They decided to address reasonable implementation plans in future consultations.
In particular, matters related to resident training, such as improving working conditions, will be discussed in detail by a subcommittee within the consultative body, led by the Korean Intern Resident Association and the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Medical Workforce Policy Division. Additionally, the Medical Association will organize cases and improvement plans regarding on-site investigations and administrative sanctions that are causing difficulties in medical practice and propose them to the consultative body.
They also reached a consensus on the situation where essential medical fields are avoided due to the burden of medical accidents, and agreed to review multifaceted improvement measures related to the handling of medical accidents in essential medical fields in the future.
At the meeting, government attendees included Lee Hyung-hoon, Director of Health and Medical Policy; Cha Jeon-gyeong, Director of Health and Medical Policy Division; Song Yang-su, Director of Medical Workforce Policy Division; Lim Kang-seop, Director of Nursing Policy Division; and Kang Jun, Director of Medical Security Innovation Division.
