“Light Broth, Perfect Rice”… Gumi Health Center’s ‘Healthy Taste’ Class
Gumi Health Living Support Center Conducts Community Education
“Keep the soup mild, and the rice portion just right!”
Gumi Public Health Center in Gyeongbuk serves residents a ‘healthy meal.’ The Gumi Health Living Support Center (Director Choi Hyun-joo of Gumi Public Health Center) will conduct nutrition education sessions titled ‘Creating a Healthy Taste: Mild and Properly Portioning’ 2 to 3 times a month starting in March.
This education is divided into two parts: the ‘Mild’ part and the ‘Proper Portion’ part. In the Mild part, soybean sprout soup is served with varying salt concentrations (sodium levels of 0.3?0.6% low salt, 0.7?1.1% normal, and above 1.1% high salt) for tasting.
Participants test their own taste preferences, and if they tend to eat salty, methods to eat more mildly are suggested to help prevent cardiovascular diseases, stomach cancer, chronic kidney disease, and more.
In the Proper Portion part, participants select a rice bowl similar in size to the one they usually use from those available in the classroom, practice serving rice, and then measure the amount of rice served.
This allows them to check whether they are eating the appropriate amount and learn about the proper intake needed to address health issues such as obesity.
Choi Hyun-joo, director of Gumi Public Health Center, introduced the program by saying, “Experiential education on eating mildly and properly will greatly help correct eating habits to prevent chronic diseases.”
Director Choi added, “We will focus on managing cardiovascular diseases through various nutrition education programs and continue to promote these projects.”
