Lee Jae-myung to Make Direct Statement
The office of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed a strong reaction on the 10th regarding the discovery of the body of Jeon Mo (64), who was the chief secretary during Lee's tenure as governor of Gyeonggi Province, stating, "The prosecution is no longer forgiven." Lee is reported to directly comment on the matter.
A representative from Lee's office told this publication in a phone interview that "(the deceased) was a career public servant and had devoted himself as a local government official in Seongnam City," adding, "He performed well and was promoted to a high-ranking position, and even after retirement, he was brought back by Gyeonggi Province."
He continued, "Having served as chief secretary in both Seongnam City and Gyeonggi Province, he was responsible for everything related to the mayor of Seongnam and the governor, including protocol, so he was targeted in all cases," and said, "Yesterday's media reports from the prosecution are portraying him as a messenger for remittances to North Korea. How much pressure would that cause, one by one?"
The representative said, "This is how one person is destroyed through fabrication and pressure," and added, "We can no longer endure this." Regarding the deceased chief secretary, Lee is expected to make a direct statement about Jeon's death at the Democratic Party's on-site Supreme Council meeting held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly on the same day.
