Seoul City Provides High-Efficiency LED Lighting Free of Charge to Vulnerable Groups
33 Billion Won Invested This Year
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 9th that it will promote the "High-Efficiency LED Lighting Distribution Project for Vulnerable Groups" to improve energy welfare for vulnerable populations and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings.
Seoul will invest a total of 3.3 billion KRW to provide 29,000 high-efficiency LED lights free of charge to 4,100 low-income households (including permanent rental housing) and 220 welfare facilities. If this year's distribution target is achieved, it is expected to reduce annual electricity consumption by 4,275 MWh (from 6,696 MWh to 2,421 MWh), saving approximately 430 million KRW in electricity bills each year.
The support targets are households eligible for livelihood, medical, housing, and education benefits under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act, near-poverty households, and welfare facilities established and operated under Article 34 of the Social Welfare Services Act.
Meanwhile, in addition to the LED lighting distribution project, the city is promoting the "Climate Change Vulnerable Group Support Project," which improves facilities used by groups relatively vulnerable to climate changes such as heatwaves and cold waves. The project budget and scale have been significantly expanded from 580 million KRW (3 projects) last year to 1.77 billion KRW (7 projects) this year.
