Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will present a variety of free performances at ‘Seokchon Lake Atelier,’ located on the west side of Seokchon Lake, to expand cultural and artistic enjoyment opportunities for residents.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, emphasized the importance of culture and arts, stating, “We will create a Songpa where culture and arts flow, which the residents, the sovereigns of Songpa-gu, can easily access and participate in anytime.” Since the launch of the 8th local government, the Culture and Arts Division has been newly established, support has been expanded, and broad cultural enjoyment opportunities have been provided, such as offering free Daehak-ro theater performances at the Songpa-gu Community Center.
‘Seokchon Lake Atelier’ is a facility on the first floor along the west shore of Seokchon Lake, opened in June 2021, featuring a small-scale performance hall, a caf?, and a rooftop garden. The district operates various performances and cultural arts programs free of charge for visitors to Seokchon Lake and residents, creating an open cultural space in everyday life. This year, it has been thoughtfully planned with a variety of performance programs targeting diverse audiences of all ages and genders.
On weekend evenings of the third and fourth weeks of March, ‘Band Signal’ will captivate audiences’ eyes and ears. Featuring South Korea’s number one post-grunge rock band ‘Broken Valentine’ along with newly spotlighted rookie bands ‘Jisokuri Club,’ ‘Frankly,’ and ‘Moscow Surfing Club,’ the stage will deliver heart-throbbing band sounds and immersive live performances.
In April, when cherry blossoms bloom, an emotionally rich ‘Jazz Night’ stage will be held. Popular melodies will be performed in jazz style, filling the stage with various genres and instrumentations such as Latin, swing, and funk pop, enhancing the enjoyment of cherry blossom viewing.
In May, the month of family, children’s performances that the whole family can enjoy will be presented, along with a relay performance by Songpa-gu public art groups themed ‘Mankae (滿開),’ singing of hope blooming like flowers.
Those wishing to attend performances at ‘Seokchon Lake Atelier’ can make reservations in advance through the Seoul Public Service Reservation System.
This year, the district plans to further strengthen the expansion of cultural and artistic foundations and infrastructure, including establishing a public theater troupe, holding planned performances once a month, and remodeling the Songpa-gu Community Center to foster cultural and artistic growth.
