During this campaign, it was actively communicated that carrying fire sources in forests is prohibited and violators will be fined 100,000 KRW. Instructions were also provided on how to respond and report if a wildfire is discovered in the forest.
Additionally, it was announced that burning activities such as burning rice field and farmland ridges, which account for 52% of wildfires in forest-adjacent areas, are completely banned. To encourage active citizen participation in wildfire prevention, promotional broadcasts using drones and wildfire publicity through SNS were also promoted.
Kim Eungsu, head of the Green City Project Group, stated, “Most wildfires occur due to minor mistakes and it takes decades to restore the forest to its original state, so prevention is the most important. We hope citizens will take the lead in protecting Pohang’s forests by refraining from burning near forest areas and not carrying fire-related materials when entering the mountains.”
