Kai to Launch Development of Virtual Reality Training System
MOU with Domestic SMEs... Securing Export Competitiveness
Korea Aerospace Industries (hereinafter KAI) has partnered with domestic small and medium-sized enterprises to develop a virtual reality (VR) flight training system.
According to KAI on the 3rd, through this technology cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU), they plan to develop a KF-21 Korean Fighter VR flight training simulator applying Epic Games' 'Unreal Engine 5.'
Based on aircraft and training system development technology, KAI is building a future-type metaverse training system model that integrates 4th industrial revolution technologies such as extended reality (XR) and VR. The VR flight simulator developed by KAI is a training system that provides a practical piloting environment prior to training with existing large-scale (Full-Flight level) flight simulators. This enables large-scale joint training, maximizing pilot training effectiveness. Additionally, it reduces training costs due to its low operational and maintenance expenses.
KAI's strategy is to secure differentiated competitiveness in the defense export market based on this and expand its export market. The metaverse training system can be further applied to helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, submarines, and high-speed landing crafts in the future. It can also spin off into industries requiring high-risk advanced equipment operators in both the public and private sectors.
