Vietnam's Second-Ranked Leader, State President Vo Van Thuong, Inaugurated
Bo Van Thuong, the Standing Secretary of the Communist Party, has been elected as the State President, the second-highest position in Vietnam's power hierarchy.
According to major foreign news outlets on the 2nd, the Vietnamese National Assembly held a special session and passed a consent bill appointing Secretary Thuong as the new State President.
Bo Van Thuong is a member of the Politburo, the Party's highest decision-making body, and is considered a close aide to Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong, the top-ranking official. He is the youngest State President in history and will serve his term until 2026.
Notably, he is also known as the figure leading the Vietnamese authorities' high-intensity drive to eradicate corruption.

Meanwhile, the position of State President had been vacant since January, when former State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc resigned amid responsibilities related to bribery scandals.
