Payment via mobile local currency to support job seekers and stimulate the local economy
District Mayor Kim Tae-woo: “Striving to implement welfare policies that support and comfort socially vulnerable groups”
Seoul’s Gangseo-gu (District Mayor Kim Tae-woo) is the first basic local government nationwide to implement the ‘Seoul Gangseo-gu Civil Service Recruitment Interview Fee Support,’ providing all candidates who take the civil service interview exam with an interview fee worth 30,000 KRW.
The related ordinance was enacted last November with the purpose of recruiting outstanding talent and supporting socially vulnerable job seekers.
The district plans to pay the fee in mobile local currency regardless of the candidate’s residence area, encouraging the use of affiliated stores such as popular local restaurants and traditional markets to stimulate the local economy.
Additionally, encouraging messages and civil service interview tips will be sent via text messages to interview candidates to provide comfort and empathy to job seekers.
Detailed information can be found in the Gangseo-gu civil service recruitment exam plan announcement. However, those currently employed or receiving interview fee support under other laws, unemployment benefits, or job-seeking activity support funds from the Ministry of Employment and Labor cannot receive overlapping payments.
District Mayor Kim Tae-woo stated, “In a situation where job seeking is difficult due to employment challenges, we have implemented interview fee support to encourage job seekers and alleviate their financial burden. We aim to create a win-win synergy effect by supporting job seekers and revitalizing the local economy during these tough times of global economic downturn.”
Since taking office last year, Mayor Kim Tae-woo has operated groundbreaking personnel systems such as special promotions, designation and operation of specialists, and the Gangseo Star Award. He is also working to establish a professional public service system by securing external talent through the nation’s first interview fee support among basic local governments.
