President Jeon stated, "The world has passed through the digital transition period and entered an era of digital deepening," emphasizing that the development of networks is accelerating changes in our economy and society at a speed no one has ever experienced before. He also announced the "K-Network 2030 Strategy," a concrete plan to realize the Korean government's continuous digital innovation policies through the "New York Initiative" and the "Republic of Korea Digital Strategy." The "K-Network 2030 Strategy" embodies Korea's vision to comprehensively promote network innovation through 6G, quantum, and satellite communication technology development, strengthening a robust and secure network foundation, and fostering a strong and competitive industrial ecosystem.
Korea plans to innovate next-generation network technologies by simultaneously advancing 6G core technology and commercialization research, enhancing quantum communication technologies such as quantum cryptography and quantum internet, and securing satellite communication technologies for spatial expansion of networks. The subscriber network will be fully converted to optical fiber cables, with capabilities to prevent communication failures and enable rapid recovery, and network equipment will be made energy-efficient by utilizing new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), thereby establishing a stable and reliable infrastructure. Additionally, support will be provided for network software (SW) transformation, and an environment conducive to the spread of Open RAN will be created. The network industry ecosystem will be developed through the development of communication semiconductors and components, as well as workforce training.
President Jeon said, "The year 2023 marks the true starting point and inaugural year for 6G introduction, as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) declared the 6G vision and began full-scale discussions on 6G frequency bands," adding, "We intend to prepare for 6G together with the Republic of Korea government starting this year."
