This donation is the largest amount ever voluntarily raised by the provincial government employees.
On the 28th, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon and three public servant labor unions of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government (Gyeonggi Provincial Government Public Servants' Union, National Public Servants' Union Gyeonggi Branch, and Gyeonggi Integrated Public Servants' Union) handed over 110.8 million KRW collected from employees and 17.08 million KRW from the Gyeonggi Volunteer Fire Brigade Association to Lee Jae-jeong, Chairman of the Korean Red Cross Gyeonggi Chapter, at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government office.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "It is very meaningful as the union members and Gyeonggi officials united to contribute bit by bit. Gyeonggi provided relief funds to T?rkiye faster than the central government or any other local government. It is great that Gyeonggi took the lead early and created a good precedent."
Chairman Lee Jae-jeong expressed gratitude, saying, "The employees of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government have made a new history. It is truly a beautiful act. Our fundraising efforts are overwhelmingly ranked first among Red Cross societies worldwide."
During the donation ceremony, a handover event was also held for the relief fund of 1 million USD that Gyeonggi Province delivered to the Korean Red Cross on the 7th, immediately after the earthquake occurred.
Following the earthquake, on the 7th, in accordance with Article 8 (Disaster Relief Support) of the Ordinance on Promotion of International Exchange and Cooperation of Gyeonggi Province, the province transferred 1 million USD in relief funds to the Korean Red Cross for disaster recovery support and relief supplies.
