Demonstration of Daejeon 'Anti-Drone' Aerial Surveillance Defense System
Daejeon City is set to conduct a pilot test of an aerial surveillance defense system using anti-drone technology. Anti-drone refers to technology that prevents drone terrorism and illegal filming through radar, acoustic, and radio wave detectors.
On the 27th, the city held a kickoff meeting for the ‘Drone Surveillance Defense Equipment Installation Project.’ The project is being promoted in cooperation with the Government Complex Management Headquarters to establish a defense system protecting the Government Daejeon Complex from threats such as terrorism and illegal drones, and to pilot an aerial surveillance defense system.
Attendees at the kickoff meeting included ▲ Jo So-yeon, Head of the Government Complex Management Headquarters ▲ Jeong Yoon-han, Director of the Daejeon Complex Management Office ▲ Hwang Gwi-yeon, Deputy Commander of the Army’s 505th Infantry Brigade ▲ Kim Dong-il, Head of Drone Bot Policy and Technology Development at the Army Education Command ▲ Kim Se-hoon, Director of Technology Policy at the Agency for Defense Development ▲ Kim Ki-taek, Defense Industry Advisor for the city ▲ Yoon Kwang-oh, Anti-Terrorism Section Chief of the Daejeon Police Agency.
The participants listened to the project kickoff report from the executing company and exchanged opinions on the detection and neutralization functions of the drone surveillance defense equipment, as well as the scalability of the integrated operation platform.
The project is the first of its kind nationwide and is part of the ‘Supplementary Measures for Anti-Drone at National Key Facilities’ approved at the 16th National Counter-Terrorism Committee meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on the 17th.
The city expects this project to be recorded as a ‘leading case of integrated defense system construction for national key facilities,’ bringing ripple effects and synergy to related projects in the future.
Daejeon has strengths in the anti-drone field, as it is home to leading drone companies, advanced technology companies in parts and sensors, and research facilities, and has built a sophisticated technological cooperation infrastructure and network system over time.
