Speaker of the National Assembly to Convene 'March Extraordinary Session' Starting Next Month 1
Ruling and Opposition Clash Over Speaker Decision Between 1st and 6th
The National Assembly has decided to convene the March extraordinary session on the 1st.
On the 24th, Speaker Kim Jin-pyo announced that the extraordinary session would be convened at 2 p.m. on the 1st of next month. This follows the request for convening by the Democratic Party of Korea, and Article 5, Paragraph 1 of the National Assembly Act stipulates that when there are multiple requests for convening an extraordinary session, the earliest meeting date must be announced.
Earlier that day, the Democratic Party submitted a request to convene the extraordinary session on the 1st to the National Assembly. They intend for the new session to begin immediately after the February extraordinary session ends.

On the other hand, the People Power Party had submitted a request the previous day to convene the session on March 6. The People Power Party has countered the Democratic Party’s claim for a '1st convening' by accusing it of being a 'shield' for Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung.
