Busan Gijang-gun Launches Denture Prosthesis Support Project for the Elderly
Busan Gijang-gun is promoting a project to support denture prosthetic treatment costs for medically vulnerable groups who cannot afford dental treatment due to economic burdens.
The support targets are elderly people aged 65 or older, or disabled persons aged 50 or older who are recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security (Medical Aid Type 1 or 2), or those who have converted to the lower-income health insurance category. The project covers the out-of-pocket costs for denture procedures and supports up to three abutment teeth (prosthetics) related to denture treatment.
Additionally, denture prosthetic support is provided for medically vulnerable groups aged 60 to under 65 who are not eligible for National Health Insurance denture benefits (Medical Aid Type 1). Eligible recipients must be Medical Aid Type 1 beneficiaries aged 60 or older who have resided in the county for more than one year.
The support procedure involves selecting candidates through a primary examination of overall health and oral condition, providing comprehensive education necessary for proper denture adaptation and management, and then referring residents to dental clinics within the county for individual treatment.
An official from the Gijang-gun Public Health Center stated, “We will actively support projects for medically vulnerable groups such as the elderly who are easily marginalized in society, and implement various support policies so that residents can benefit.”
