Kim Jang-sil, President of the Korea Tourism Organization (Vice Chairperson of the Korea Visit Year), stated that Lee Boo-jin was recommended as the right person to lead the industry in the success of the "2023-2024 Korea Visit Year" and the "fusion of K-Culture and tourism," known as "K-Tourism."
The board explained that the reason for electing Lee as the new chairperson was that, as the CEO of Hotel Shilla, which focuses on businesses closely related to the tourism industry, she has demonstrated outstanding management skills, and based on her expertise in the domestic and international tourism industries, she is the right person to lay the foundation for public-private cooperation to open the era of 30 million foreign tourists by 2027 through creative leadership.
Chairperson Lee began her connection with the tourism industry in 2001 as the head of the planning department at Hotel Shilla. She later served as Executive Vice President in charge of management strategy at Samsung Everland and as an advisor to the trading division of Samsung C&T Corporation before being appointed CEO of Hotel Shilla in 2010. She has been listed for eight consecutive years in Forbes' "World's 100 Most Powerful Women."
Chairperson Lee was unable to attend the board meeting due to scheduling conflicts. Through a statement, she expressed her intention to "meet soon with Park Bo-gyun, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kim Jang-sil, President of the Korea Tourism Organization, and key representatives of the tourism industry to discuss ways to promote public-private cooperation for the success of the 'Korea Visit Year' and 'K-Tourism.'"
