30s Woman Targeting Female Drivers with 'Wrist Strike' Staged Traffic Accidents... Extorted Tens of Millions of Won
Deliberately Causing Accidents by Bumping Wrists and Ankles
"I'm Busy, Just Give Me a Little Cash" Pressuring for Settlement
A woman in her 30s who deliberately caused traffic accidents targeting only female drivers and then pretended to be pregnant to extort millions of won in settlement money was caught by the police.
Jeonbuk Jeonju Wansan Police Station announced that they have arrested and are investigating Ms. A on charges of violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud and fraud, according to Yonhap News on the 22nd.
Ms. A is suspected of intentionally causing traffic accidents 103 times from 2018 until October last year in alleyways in Busan, Gwangju, and Jeonju, collecting about 27 million won in settlement money.
Ms. A used a method called 'wrist hitting,' deliberately bumping her wrist or ankle against vehicles driven only by women while they were driving. After causing the accidents, she pretended to be pregnant to evoke sympathy and extorted settlement money.
She mainly committed the crimes during busy commuting hours to facilitate easier settlements. It was also found that she waited in alleyways to find targets for her crimes.
Ms. A reportedly pressured victims to settle personally at the scene without reporting to the police, exploiting the fact that the police would have difficulty identifying the accident if settled privately, saying, "Don't call 112, let's settle."
In particular, she took advantage of the difficulty of pregnant women undergoing X-ray examinations and induced them to handle the matter privately without medical certificates.

The police received a report last October stating, "I paid 300,000 won in settlement after a traffic accident, but something seems suspicious," and after confirming signs of insurance fraud in the accident footage, they launched an investigation and arrested Ms. A.
