Ulsan Office of Education Supports Enrollment Preparation Funds for Elementary School New Students
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will provide 100,000 KRW per student as elementary school entrance preparation funds directly to the students' school banking accounts starting from the 10th of next month, without requiring separate applications from parents.
The elementary school entrance preparation fund has been introduced and implemented since 2022 to strengthen the accountability of public education and to ensure educational welfare equity for elementary students in consideration of the support for uniforms for new middle and high school students.
The support targets first-grade new students in elementary and special elementary courses in Ulsan as of March 6, with no restrictions based on the student's age or household income. The number of eligible students based on the preliminary gathering is 10,490.
To facilitate prompt payment, schools will complete preliminary tasks such as registering school banking accounts or collecting separate application forms from parents without school banking accounts during February, and will inform families about the entrance preparation fund support after the school opens in March through newsletters and other means.
Last year, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education provided approximately 1.08 billion KRW in entrance support funds to 10,872 first-grade new students across 125 elementary schools.
According to a satisfaction survey conducted in July regarding the entrance preparation fund support, 87.25% of respondents reported using the funds mainly for purchasing school-related items such as bags and notebooks, and 97.81% responded that the support was helpful to the students.
About 95% of the funds were used within the Ulsan area, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
