The 6th 'Kim Jongsam Poetry Literature Award' Winner is Poet Jang Okgwan
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The 6th 'Kim Jong-sam Poetry Literary Award' winner has been announced as poet Jang Ok-gwan, the organizing committee revealed on the 16th. The awarded work is the poetry collection There Was No One (Munhakdongne).
The winning work is the sixth poetry collection by Jang Ok-gwan, who marks his 35th anniversary since debut, featuring prominent images of death. Poet Jang debuted in 1987 with Segyeui Munhak and has since published poetry collections such as Hwanggeum Yeonmot (Golden Pond), Bakwi Sori-reul Deutneunda (Listening to the Wheel Sound), Haneul Umul (Sky Well), Dalgwa Baemgwa Jjalbeun Iyagi (The Moon, the Snake, and a Short Story), Geu Gyeoul Naneun Bukbyeokeseo Saratda (That Winter I Lived on the North Wall), as well as a children's poetry collection Nae Baekkob-eul Manjyeobwatta (I Touched My Bellybutton). Through these works, he has received awards including the Kim Dal-jin Literary Award, Ilyeon Literary Award, and Nojak Literary Award.
This award was established in 2017 by the 'Kim Jong-sam Poet Memorial Association' to commemorate poet Kim Jong-sam. The judging criteria require that the poet has debuted more than 10 years ago and that the poetry collection published in the year prior to the judging date aligns with the spirit of Kim Jong-sam's poetry.
