"Now Targeting the European Market" SsangYong Motor Obtains Cybersecurity Management System Certification
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Ssangyong Motor announced on the 16th that it has obtained the CSMS (Cyber Security Management System) certification, the European cyber security management system, to expand its entry into the European market and strengthen competitiveness.
They acquired the CSMS certification in December last year and plan to obtain SUMS (Software Update Management System) and Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) by the second half of this year.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) established related regulations (UNR155) in July 2020, mandating the acquisition of CSMS certification. According to the CSMS system, vehicles must also receive VTA approval to confirm they were developed accordingly.
CSMS is a system designed to securely protect automobiles and their electrical and electronic components from cyber threats. It requires the establishment of systematic processes and management systems covering the entire lifecycle of the vehicle, including development, production, and post-production stages.
CSMS certification (renewal) is conducted every three years. From July last year, new cars sold in Europe and all mass-produced vehicles sold locally from July 2024 must comply with cyber security regulations.
In particular, Ssangyong Motor plans to build a CSMS equipped with the best security technologies and systems through technical cooperation with specialized security technology companies.

Ssangyong Motor stated, “With the advancement of automotive technologies such as autonomous vehicles and connected cars, establishing cyber security management systems like CSMS to prevent hacking and personal information leakage has become an essential technology not only in Europe but also in the global market. Especially since CSMS requires renewal every three years and VTA certification is needed for each vehicle model, we will devote all efforts to establishing a systematic security management system unique to Ssangyong Motor.”
