Educational Metaverse Platformization... Providing Specialized Features
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus will launch the metaverse platform 'Ubus' in the first quarter and accelerate its entry into the metaverse education market. It announced on the 8th that it will introduce 'Ubus Campus' exclusively for universities and 'Ubus School' exclusively for elementary, middle, and high schools.
LG Uplus has supplied specialized metaverses for each university, such as Sookmyung Women's University’s 'Snowbus' and Cheongju University's 'MetaLife.' It has also partnered with Ewha Womans University to develop a metaverse campus. In December last year, it signed business agreements with Megazone, Gala Lab, and others to develop a university-specialized metaverse platform.
Previously, customized metaverse campuses were provided individually for each university, but with the launch of 'Ubus Campus,' university metaverse services will be platformized. Additionally, through 'Ubus School,' it will also target the elementary, middle, and high school markets. This marks the full-scale entry into the business-to-government (B2G) metaverse education market.
Ubus differs from existing business-to-consumer (B2C) metaverse services in that it is an education-specialized metaverse platform. Unlike existing B2C services that provide only standardized spaces on fixed maps, it offers dedicated spaces specialized for each school and provides essential academic functions. It creates maps identical to actual school buildings such as libraries, playgrounds, and auditoriums, where events like festivals can be held.
Unlike existing metaverse rooms that disappear after meetings end, all spaces can be used continuously. Simply put, it allows the creation and use of metaverse classrooms. Notably, more than 1,000 users can connect simultaneously in one space, enabling various events and large lectures. Within classrooms, various remote learning solutions such as Zoom and Webex can be used. It also supports Excel, PDF, PPT, and more.
It provides specialized functions suited to the study culture of the 10-20 age group. It supports the popular 'Study With Me' feature (content where users broadcast themselves studying in real-time via video platforms to study together with others). Using Ubus’s cam/avatar study and study time count functions, students can study online together with friends.
A web-based access environment suitable for various learning styles is a key feature. There is no need to download a separate app; users access via a school-dedicated webpage URL. It is available regardless of OS or device, including smartphones, PCs, and tablets.
To prevent harms caused by anonymity in metaverse spaces, user authentication has been strengthened. It is a closed system with high security, allowing access only to students and faculty who register with school email addresses or pre-approved authentication.
