Gwangju Dong-gu "Lending Books to Organizations and Groups"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 5th that it will recruit institutions to participate in the ‘2023 Dong-gu Library Institutional Loan’ program, which is being implemented for the first time this year, starting from February.
The ‘Institutional Loan Service’ aims to create an environment for residents to read books while actively utilizing the books withdrawn from the local smart libraries.
This is because many of the books replaced or withdrawn each year when purchasing new books for smart libraries overlap, making it difficult to utilize them in public libraries.
Accordingly, Dong-gu decided to promote institutional loans of books withdrawn from smart libraries not to public libraries but to social facilities such as village community centers, local children’s centers, senior citizen centers, and private small libraries within the district.
Institutions wishing to use the institutional loan service can borrow about 100 books for a long term. Upon selection, the institution’s representative can visit the Gyerim Kkum Namu Library in person to select, borrow, and return the desired books.
The application period is from February 1 to 28, and the application form can be downloaded from the Dong-gu Library website’s notice section and submitted via email.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “As the saying goes, ‘Books are nourishment that fills thoughts and hearts,’ we will strive harder to spread a culture where more residents can read books,” adding, “We will accelerate the creation of ‘Humanities City Dong-gu,’ where books can be easily borrowed throughout Dong-gu, not only from public libraries and smart libraries.”
