Four People Arrested involved in the 'Changwon Spy Ring Case'

It is expected that the investigation by the authorities, who believe they organized a pro-North anti-government group in South Korea under North Korean orders, will gain momentum.
A suspect involved in the 'Changwon Spy Ring Case' is appearing at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of January 31 for a warrant hearing.

In the early morning of the day, Judge Kim Sangwoo, in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, issued arrest warrants for four people including Mr. A, stating, "There is a risk of evidence destruction or flight."
On the 30th of last month, the Public Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Heedong) requested arrest warrants for four people including Mr. A on charges of violating the National Security Act.
They are suspected of engaging in anti-government activities within the organization called the Independent Unification People's Vanguard, formed around Changwon, Gyeongnam, around 2016.
In particular, it is reported that they received orders after contacting North Korean-related figures in Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia.
In November of last year, the National Intelligence Service and the police searched their residences and offices and arrested them on the 28th of last month.

Initially, they claimed the arrest was unjust and filed a detention review with the Seoul Central District Court, but after about two hours of questioning, the court ruled that maintaining the arrest was appropriate and dismissed their request.
