Yongin City announced on the 31st that it has decided to establish a Meister High School specializing in semiconductor talent training, tentatively named 'Yongin Semiconductor Meister High School,' on a 21,000㎡ site at the Baekam High School sports ground, and will form and operate a task force with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and Yongin Office of Education to apply for Meister High School designation.
The task force will first initiate various administrative procedures to request approval from the Ministry of Education by April 28.

Next month, Yongin City will separately form a public-private consultative body to promote the Meister High School designation and will actively support by signing support agreements with related companies regarding curriculum development, on-site industrial training, and support for hiring outstanding talent. Earlier, through organizational restructuring, a Semiconductor Talent Development Team was newly established within the Semiconductor Division 2 of the New Growth Strategy Bureau.
Earlier, the Ministry of Education announced at the '2023 Meister High School Designation Promotion Briefing' on the 12th that it plans to newly designate 3 to 4 Meister High Schools in the digital and semiconductor fields, aiming for opening in March 2025.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, emphasized, "For Yongin Special City to become a world-class semiconductor city, it is essential to establish semiconductor infrastructure and a system capable of nurturing specialized talent. In particular, the semiconductor Meister High School will play a very important role in positioning the city as a key national semiconductor workforce training hub."
After taking office in July last year, Mayor Lee met with Deputy Minister of Education Jang Sang-yoon to emphasize the necessity of establishing Yongin Semiconductor High School and requested support from the Ministry of Education.
