Seoul City Sends 'Byeongmul Arisu' Drinking Water to Wando County Facing Water Shortage
Taking the Lead as the First Participant in the "Drinking Water Donation Relay"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Seoul City announced on the 15th that it will urgently provide 10,000 bottles (2ℓ) of bottled Arisu water to Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, which is currently experiencing a severe drought and drinking water shortage.
This support is part of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘Drinking Water Donation Relay’ to overcome drought in the southern island regions, with Seoul City being the first among local governments nationwide to participate and mark the beginning of the initiative.
Geumildo Island in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, where the bottled Arisu water will be delivered, has been under restricted water supply since November 7 of last year, with water supplied every 2 days and cut off for 4 days. The 10,000 bottles (2ℓ) of bottled Arisu water provided by Seoul City is enough for 3,559 residents of Geumildo to drink for one week.
The city also announced plans to provide additional bottled Arisu water if the drought continues and restricted water supply is not lifted in the southern island regions, causing a shortage of drinking water.
So far, Seoul City has actively supported bottled Arisu water to disaster areas affected by overseas floods and earthquakes, as well as domestic droughts, heavy rains, and large wildfires. Since 2019, the supply has been limited only to emergency water supply in areas with water outages or disasters.
