Ministry of the Interior and Safety Accelerates Policy Outcomes Creation with Experts
Policy Advisory Committee Comprising 146 Experts in Operation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 12th that the 6th Policy Advisory Committee, composed of 146 private experts, will officially launch to deliver tangible results to the public.
The Policy Advisory Committee participates in all major policies of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, providing opinions and identifying risk factors in policy decisions in advance to enhance policy completeness. The chairperson appointed is Professor Seonghee Park of the Department of Communication and Media at Ewha Womans University. The committee members by division are composed of top experts with extensive knowledge and experience from various fields such as academia, research institutes, and corporations.
In particular, this year, in line with the government's policy to reduce committees, unnecessary advisory committees by departments and bureaus were reorganized, and the size and role of the Policy Advisory Committee were expanded. Members will work in nine divisions according to policy functions, such as the Planning and Coordination Division and the Safety Policy Division. For policies related to two or more divisions, special committees will be formed to enable collaboration between divisions.
Additionally, matters related to the overall work of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will be discussed in the General Committee, composed of division chairpersons and others. To ensure thorough policy discussions and timely responses to emerging issues, the total number of committee members has been expanded, allowing up to 180 members to be appointed (previously 130).
Furthermore, viewing youth as partners in national governance and to strengthen intergenerational communication, the Ministry plans to reflect diverse youth opinions in policies by allowing members of the Ministry’s "2030 Advisory Group," launched last year, to concurrently serve as advisory committee members.
Meanwhile, the appointment ceremony will be held simply tomorrow at the Korea Press Center, centered on the chairperson and division chairpersons. Going forward, to ensure substantive committee operations, division meetings will be held at least once per quarter so that policy departments can continuously incorporate feedback from the field.
