With a population of 20 million, Mexico City’s subway is a major transportation means used by 4.6 million people daily on average. Opened in 1969, it currently operates 12 lines with 195 stations. However, issues such as poor construction, inadequate maintenance, and lack of supervision have been consistently pointed out. In May 2021, an elevated railway collapsed, killing 26 people and injuring about 100 others.
