The culprit behind the student council president election manipulation is a teacher... Parents found the evidence
Election Result Reversed by a 3-Vote Difference
Teacher Apologizes "I Was Wrong" and Does Not Go to Work
[Asia Economy Culture Young Intern Reporter] At an elementary school in Gunsan, the results of the student council president election were changed a few days after the vote, sparking controversy over manipulation. The person who manipulated the results was a teacher, and the teacher has not been coming to school, only leaving a message saying "I was wrong."
An elementary school in Gunsan-si, Jeonbuk, held a school-wide student officer election for grades 3 to 5 on December 29 of last year. The voting was conducted using an electronic voting system supported by the Gunsan City Election Commission.
After the voting ended, the school announced, "Out of 111 total voters, 109 participated in the vote, with candidate number 1 receiving 56 votes and candidate number 2 receiving 53 votes, making candidate number 1 the student council president."
However, Mr. A, the father of the losing candidate number 2, raised doubts about the voting results and discovered that the formats of the vote result sheets for the president and the two vice presidents were different. The vote count sheet for his child had numbers spaced with consistent margins at the edges, but the school president’s result sheet had numbers printed without margins, and there was a tiny dot next to the total number of voters, 109.
Mr. A requested verification of the results from the Gunsan City Election Commission, which supported the voting process, and learned that the actual results were candidate number 1 with 53 votes and candidate number 2 with 56 votes, meaning candidate number 2 had actually won. On the 2nd, the Jeollabuk-do Office of Education acknowledged that a teacher had manipulated the ballots and issued a correction notice on the school’s website.
The school stated on its website, "After the electronic voting for the school-wide officers, due to the deliberate actions of the teacher in charge during the computer tallying process, the winner was changed, and we hereby correct and amend the results."
