Prosecution Completes Execution of 4.5 Billion Won Fine on Jang Geun-seok's Mother and Agency for Tax Evasion
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The mother of actor Jang Geun-seok, who was convicted of tax evasion for failing to report tens of billions of won in income, has paid the full fine of 4.5 billion won.
According to the prosecution on the 5th, the Enforcement Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office received a fine of 4.5 billion won (3 billion won personally, 1.5 billion won corporately) on December 30 last year from Jeon, the mother of Jang Geun-seok, who was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison with a 4-year probation and a 3 billion won fine for tax evasion under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, and from the entertainment agency represented by Jeon.
In February 2021, Jeon was sentenced to 4 years probation and a 3 billion won fine by the court for evading 1.855 billion won in comprehensive income tax and corporate tax. The entertainment agency Trije Company, represented by Jeon, was also fined 1.5 billion won. It was investigated that Jeon omitted reporting tens of billions of won in income by withdrawing revenue earned by Jang through overseas activities via a Hong Kong account.

Besides this case, the prosecution also executed a full cash fine of 5.3 billion won from the head of a nationwide famous dental chain in July last year. A prosecution official stated, "We are focusing our efforts on enforcing high-value fines and will continue to ensure thorough execution of sentences."
