Scheffler 'Scenario for Regaining World No. 1 Ranking?'
Achieves Solo 3rd Place at Hawaii's First TOC Competition
World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler (USA) aims to claim the 'Number 1' spot in the first tournament of the new year.
On the 4th (local time), the American Golf Channel reported, "If Scheffler finishes solo 3rd at the Sentry Tournament of Champions (TOC, total prize money $15 million), he will regain the world No. 1 ranking." The TOC is a PGA Tour 2022/2023 season event held over four days starting from the 5th at the Kapalua Plantation Course (par 73, 7,596 yards) on Maui Island, Hawaii, USA. It is a 'champion of champions' event featuring only 39 top players, including last season's winners.
Last year's Masters champion Scheffler held the No. 1 world ranking until October, when he lost the top spot to Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), who achieved back-to-back wins at The CJ Cup. McIlroy will not participate in this TOC. He was the only player to compete in this tournament in 2019, finishing tied for 4th. McIlroy will start his new season on the 26th at the DP World Tour Dubai Desert Classic.
