Expectations for Promoting Reading Culture and Serving as a Catalyst for Regional Educational Development
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Mi-seok] Jeonnam Gurye-gun Maechun Library announced that on the 26th, it received a donation of about 150 children's educational comics (worth 1.5 million KRW) from the Gurye-gun Parents' Association.
The donated books will be marked and tagged with the Maechun Library logo and placed in the library's comic materials corner for users to access.
The Gurye-gun Parents' Association (President Shin So-young) is an organization composed of parent executives from elementary, middle, and high schools in the Gurye area, with about 70 active members. They actively contribute to student safety and welfare as well as environmental protection through activities such as ▲donating children's books to Gurye Maechun Library ▲operating the Anabada market ▲hosting Plogging Day (eco-friendly movement) events ▲providing safety guidance for students commuting to and from school.
Shin So-young, president of the Gurye-gun Parents' Association, stated, “We donated books using funds raised through volunteer activities by members to spark children's interest in reading and support their learning in some way. We hope to continue contributing to local educational development through various activities.”
County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, “We deeply appreciate the Parents' Association for their active efforts toward regional coexistence. The donated books will be well utilized to promote the reading culture among Gurye residents.”
Meanwhile, Gurye-gun Maechun Library, which opened in June 2002, holds about 45,000 volumes and relocated to a school-centered area in May 2022, establishing itself as a complex cultural space for residents.
