At the '2023 Opportunity Gyeonggi New Year Meeting with Residents' held on the 2nd at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government auditorium, Governor Kim said, "Since my inauguration, I have wanted to make Gyeonggi a place full of opportunities," adding, "As we welcome the new year, I firmly pledge once again to the residents. I want Gyeonggi Province to overflow with more and more equitable opportunities."
The event was organized to share the New Year's message, including this year's key projects and administrative directions of Gyeonggi Province, with the residents. About 300 people attended, including 41 residents from various sectors such as businesspeople, industrial workers, transportation workers, sanitation workers, and people with disabilities, as well as staff members.
At the event, Governor Kim expressed his ambition, saying, "I want to inject dynamism into our economy. From that dynamism, I want to create many jobs, opportunities to do business, start-ups, enterprises, and for students, opportunities to study and exercise, so that they can have chances to realize their dreams in Gyeonggi Province."
He continued, "I want to create equitable opportunities. Through the opportunity income series, we create social opportunities but also provide opportunity income directly to cultural artists who are not properly compensated in the market," adding, "We will also provide opportunity income to people with disabilities. Since the end of last year, we have been giving training allowances to people with severe disabilities, and we will expand activity allowances for people with disabilities."
Governor Kim also said, "For cultural artists, people with disabilities, and the elderly, we will issue vouchers for sports viewing so they can enjoy cultural arts and participate in sports activities and spectating," and introduced, "We want to build opportunity ladders for youth. We have created several opportunity ladder projects that allow young people to develop themselves while doing what they want to do, whether domestically or abroad, and to pursue their interests for a certain period."
He added, "Besides these, we have included various budgets related to opportunities. Let all public officials unite their efforts so that we can provide better and more opportunities to the residents of Gyeonggi Province," emphasizing, "This year will also not be easy in many respects. In such times, residents who are struggling and facing difficulties are likely to suffer first, so it is very important to maintain sustainability by taking care of these people first through coexistence and inclusion."
He also urged residents to actively express their opinions.
Governor Kim said, "For politicians to advocate reforms that break vested interests, they must first acknowledge that they themselves hold vested interests and relinquish them. I believe this sincerity toward the people and the driving force to push such work forward come from that," adding, "Please raise your voices a lot. It would be good if everyone expresses various opinions about whether the society surrounding us is truly democratic, whether those calling for the destruction of vested interests are themselves vested interests, and so on. Let all 14 million residents raise their voices and change Gyeonggi Province."
